Garg Rice & General Mills

Garg Rice & General Mills is our small operation over on Mour Road. It is not much to look at from the outside, just a collection of sheds and a high fence. We have been milling rice here for a good while. The road gets pretty busy with tractors during the peak months, and the noise is something you just get used to. I spend a lot of time making sure the bags are stitched tight and nothing is leaking. It’s a lot of physical labor. My back usually aches by the end of the week, but that is the life we chose. Mour Road is a good spot for us because it’s easy for the farmers to reach. We have a few old dogs that hang around the gates and wait for scraps. The machinery we use is older, but it still works fine if you treat it right. We don't have a website or any of that fancy stuff. People just know where we are. If you need us, you just drive down Mour Road and look for the stack of rice bags. We don't make a big fuss about what we do. It’s just rice. We clean it, hull it, and pack it up for the market. It’s a simple cycle that keeps us busy and pays the bills. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit around and talk until it comes back on. That's just part of the job. It's a plain, honest way to make a living on Mour Road.
