The Artist Room Salon

We set up shop in the Patanjali Chikatsalya Building, specifically at 120-A in Vikash Nagar. If you are standing at the Navratan Sweet House, just look across the street and you’ll see us. Kanpur is a dusty city, so I spend a lot of time wiping down the counters and the chairs. The building itself is busy with people going in and out of the clinic. We get a mix of people here. Some are just passing through Vikash Nagar, and others have lived here for decades. The sweet house across the road is a real problem because the smell of samosas makes me hungry all day. Our salon isn't very large. We have a few stations set up and the lighting is okay. I chose this spot because it’s easy for people to find. You don't need a map if you know the landmark. Sometimes the water pressure acts up, but we’ve learned how to deal with it. We don't have a big mission statement or anything. We just show up, open the shutters, and do the work. It’s a regular Kanpur business. Most days are steady. I like the routine of it. We listen to the radio or just talk to whoever is in the chair. It’s practical work. No one puts on airs here. We are just 120-A, trying to keep things running smoothly for the folks in 208024.
