Silky Mountain Beauty Parlour

You can find us on P Road in Kanpur, right across from the Pani Tanki. Everyone in this part of town knows the water tank, so it makes us easy to find. The street outside is always full of rickshaws and motorbikes. Silky Mountain Beauty Parlour has been here in this building, 104A/210, for a good while. It’s a humble setup. We have the usual things like sinks for washing hair and a couple of stations for the work we do. Kanpur is a dusty city, so we are constantly wiping down the glass and the counters. It feels like a never-ending job sometimes. We mostly see women from the local neighborhood who need a quick bit of threading or a hair wash. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know how to handle the work. We usually have the radio playing in the background to drown out some of the traffic noise from P Road. It’s a simple life running a parlor here. We open up around ten and stay until late evening. Sometimes neighbors stop by just to chat for a few minutes even if they don't need anything done. We focus on getting the work done right so people don't have complaints. It’s just a normal day-to-day business for us, nothing more and nothing less. The shop stays quite cool because of the building, which is a relief when the heat gets too much. We don't have big leather sofas, just some plastic chairs for waiting. Most people don't mind.
