Shama Hair Salon

The shop is right on the busy street, so we hear everything happening outside from morning to night. Kanpur is a very noisy city, and Darshan Purwa is no different with all its traffic. We have a few chairs and the basic stuff you need for hair work. It’s not a big salon with a fancy reception desk or uniform. You just walk in and if a chair is free, you sit down and we get to work. If not, you wait on the plastic chairs we have by the wall. We have some old newspapers and magazines lying around for people to read, but most people just talk to each other. The walls have a few marks on them from the years, but we try to keep the workstation organized. We do haircuts and shaves mainly. Sometimes someone wants a head massage after a long day, and we do that too. It’s a lot of physical work, standing on our feet all day long, but we are used to it. The water we use comes from the local supply, and we have to heat it up when the winter comes. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us working together. We’ve known the families around Kundan Devi for a long time. It’s just a normal shop in a busy place.
