Royal Parlour

Avon Market Road in Kaka Deo is a noisy place, especially being so close to the chauraha. Our shop, Royal Parlour, is at 117/L. It is one of those spots where you can hear the horns honking all day long. We get here early to sweep the floor and set the towels out. In Kanpur, you have to keep cleaning or the dust takes over everything. The shop is small but it fits what we need. There are a few chairs and big mirrors that have seen better days but they work fine. Most of the people who come in live right here in Kaka Deo or work in the shops nearby. They come in for a quick trim or maybe something else if they have a wedding to go to. We don’t have any big signs or loud music. It’s mostly just the sound of the scissors and people chatting about their day. When it rains, the road outside gets a bit messy, so we have to keep a mop handy for the footprints. It is a basic setup. We have been here for a while now and know all the local faces. The chauraha is a good landmark because everyone knows where that is. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It is a steady life on Avon Market Road and we like the people who stop by to say hello.
