The workshop we run for Prachi Leathers is located at C-3 in Udyog Nagar. We are pretty easy to find because the building is situated right near the main entrance of the industrial estate. You can usually tell you are getting close to us by the heavy smell of the hides and the various oils we use for the leather. It’s a very distinct scent that tends to stay on your clothes long after you leave. The building itself is a standard industrial unit with two floors and plenty of windows that we try to keep open to catch a breeze. We have a small group of people working here, and many of them have been with the company for a lot of years. We spend most of our time checking the quality of the leather and making sure the machines are oiled and running correctly. It involves a lot of physical effort and standing on your feet. The desks in our tiny office corner are always buried under scraps of paper and leather swatches of different colors. We don't have a corporate atmosphere at all. It feels more like a big family workshop than a company. The stairs are narrow and the concrete floor has plenty of scuff marks from years of moving heavy crates back and forth. In the evenings, we pull down the metal shutters and head home. It is a decent, honest place to spend the day focusing on the leather and the orders we need to fill.
