Our workshop is located at L.G.-4/6 in Ganga Vihar, which is part of the K.D.A. Colony in Jajmau. Jajmau is well known as a hub for leather, so we are right in the thick of things here. It's a dusty area with lots of trucks moving back and forth through the narrow streets all day long. We have a decent-sized space where we process the leather and get it ready for whatever comes next. It’s very hot work, especially during the summer months when the sun hits the metal roof, but we have some old fans going to keep the air moving a bit. We aren't trying to be some high-end luxury brand with a glass building and a receptionist. We are just a group of people who know how to handle hides. Every morning starts with a careful check of the skins we received. If they aren't right, we can't do much with them. We spend a lot of time on our feet, moving from one work station to another. The office is just a small corner with a couple of chairs and a lot of paper registers. We deal with many local suppliers and workers who live right here in the colony. It’s a community where everyone knows the trade. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to stop and wait, which usually means it's time for a tea break. We just focus on getting the work done and the orders shipped to customers.
