Mahrsi Vashishtha Wishram Inter College

Down in Naubasta, Kanpur, you'll find Mahrsi Vashishtha Wishram Inter College. It's right in the middle of a busy residential area. Kanpur is always loud and moving, and our college is no different once the morning bell rings. We have students coming in for their intermediate studies. The building has several floors and the stairs are always full of kids running up and down. I usually sit in the front office near the main gate. From there, I can see the chaos of the street and the students arriving. We have large classrooms but they feel small when they're full of forty or fifty students. The desks have seen better days, with plenty of names carved into them over the years. We don't have a big fancy website or a glossy brochure. What you see is what you get. We focus on the daily lessons and getting the students ready for their board exams. The staff room is a bit cramped but we manage to fit everyone in for the afternoon break. Sometimes we have to deal with power cuts, so we just carry on by the light from the windows. It’s an old-school way of doing things, but it’s how we’ve always worked here in Naubasta. It’s a hard-working place with a lot of noise and a lot of heart. We don't mind the busy atmosphere because it keeps us on our toes.
