D.S.M. Inter College

Down in Yashoda Nagar, specifically in the Shankaracharya Nagar area of Kanpur, you’ll find D.S.M. Inter College. It’s one of those places that has a lot of history in the bricks. The walls are painted a simple color and we try to keep them clean, though with so many students passing through every day, it’s a constant task. Kanpur can get really dusty, so we are always dusting off the benches and the windowsills. Being an inter college, we have the older boys and girls who are getting ready for their big exams. You can often see them huddled in corners of the yard discussing their notes or just hanging out before the next period starts. The staff here is mostly local people who have lived in this part of the city for years. We don't go for anything too flashy. The labs have the basic equipment and the library has rows of books that have been read a hundred times over. In the afternoons, when the sun is high over Yashoda Nagar, the place gets a bit quiet as everyone is inside the classrooms. It’s a familiar routine for all of us. We deal with the usual stuff like broken light bulbs or a leaky tap now and then. It’s just how things go when you run a place this size in a busy city like ours. We just show up and do the work that needs doing every morning.
