We work out of Siddharth Villa over in Tilak Nagar. It’s a quiet enough spot compared to the main market area. We set up our workshop in a room that gets good sunlight in the mornings. There is a big table in the middle where all the cutting happens. We have rolls of brown and black leather leaning against the walls. It’s mostly a small team here, just a few of us who know how to handle the material. We don't have a showroom or anything like that. If you come to Siddharth Villa, you’ll just see us working. Tilak Nagar is a nice place to be based, even if we are tucked away a little. We spend a lot of time checking the hides for marks or holes before we start cutting. The scraps get used for smaller things or just tossed in a bin for later. Sometimes we run out of a certain type of thread and have to go out to get more. The machines we use are old but they still run well enough if we oil them every week. We drink a lot of tea while we work and listen to the radio in the background. It’s a steady pace of work without too much excitement. We just focus on getting the pieces right. Most of the day is just the sound of the needles and the hum of the fan.
