K.N Saloon

K.N Saloon is at 104/A/247 in the Rambaagh area, right on P Road in Kanpur. If you know Kanpur, you know that P Road is always packed with cycles, rickshaws, and people moving about. The shop is small and sits right in the middle of all that noise. I’ve been working in this shop for over ten years now. We have those heavy iron chairs that they don't really make anymore. They are a bit stiff but very sturdy. I do mostly haircuts and shaves for the local shopkeepers and the men who work in the nearby offices. We have a small TV in the corner that is usually tuned to a news channel or a cricket match if India is playing. The walls are covered with a few old calendars and some pictures of different hair styles that nobody ever actually asks for. People usually just say they want the usual and I know what to do. The floor is tiled but some of them are cracked from years of use. It gets very hot in the afternoons, and the small fan on the wall does its best to keep us cool. We keep a jug of cold water for anyone who is thirsty. It’s a busy life here on P Road, and there is never a dull moment with all the shouting and horn-honking outside the door. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
