Khalsa Public Balika Inter College

Khalsa Public Balika Inter College is situated in Naubasta, which is a really busy part of Kanpur. It’s an area that’s always full of people, rickshaws, and vendors, and we are right in the middle of all that activity. Since it’s a girls' college, we try to keep the atmosphere inside the gates a bit more calm and focused compared to the noise of the street outside. The building has been here for a while, and you can tell by the way the stairs are worn down and the walls have been painted over many times. We have a lot of students coming from the local families in Naubasta, so there’s a real sense of being part of the neighborhood. The morning commute for most of our staff and students involves navigating the narrow lanes of Kanpur, which isn’t always easy. We don’t have any big, fancy halls, just regular rooms where the girls sit and do their lessons. There’s a small courtyard where they can spend their breaks. It’s not a place with a lot of extra trimmings, just a solid building where we get the work done. We see the same faces every day and know most of the families by name. It’s a very local, down-to-earth kind of place that doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t. We just open the gates every morning and keep things going as best as we can.
