We are over on Dargah Sharif Road in the Jajmau area. If you know the neighborhood, you know it is the heart of the leather work around here. Our address is 189/172-a, and it is basically a large warehouse setup. The smell of the hides is something you get used to after about five minutes, but visitors always notice it right away. It is a tough job working with leather all day. We have the pits and the drying area all laid out in the back part of the building. The floor is almost always wet because of the processing and cleaning. I spend most of my time checking the skins and making sure the color is coming out right. It is not a clean environment, and my boots are always stained from the dyes. We have been at this spot for a long time. The road outside is usually congested with carts and bikes carrying materials back and forth. Sometimes the dust from the street gets in, but we try to keep the main work area covered as much as possible. We do not have a fancy office, just a small wooden desk where I keep the logbooks and the orders. Most of the guys here live nearby in Jajmau, so they walk to work. We just focus on getting the tanning done and shipping the leather out to the factories that need it. It is hard work but it is what we know.
