Working at Bhalla Estate means you get used to the noise and the smells of the trade. Bengal Tanning Industries is tucked away at No. 329/308/332/308- A. It's a bit of a maze back here, honestly. We spend our days dealing with hides and the tanning process. It’s messy work. You can’t really keep your clothes clean in this job. We’ve been at it for some time. The floor is always wet or covered in something. We have the machines running most of the day. Sometimes they break, and we have to fix them ourselves. It’s not a quiet place. We talk over the sound of the equipment. We move stuff from one pile to another. It’s heavy work too. Our hands are usually stained. That’s just how it goes. People in the estate know us as the leather folks. We don't have a fancy showroom. It's mostly just the workshop where all the heavy lifting happens. We eat our lunch sitting on crates sometimes. It's just a job, but it's what we know how to do. The address is a bit confusing to visitors, but once you find the gate, you see the stacks of materials. We just keep going, day after day. It's a living. We don't try to make it sound like more than it is. Just tanning hides here in the estate and trying to get the orders done.
