Jajmau is well known for its leather work, and we are right there at No. 417/d in Defence Colony. The smell of the tannery is something you just get used to after a few days of working here. It’s an industrial area, so it’s not exactly quiet or pretty to look at. We spend our days dealing with hides and heavy processing equipment that makes a lot of noise. It’s messy work and your hands are never really clean by the end of the day. We have a yard where things are laid out and the sun does a lot of the drying work for us. Our building is sturdy but it’s definitely seen better days over the years. We don't have any fancy signs or a reception area for guests. If you come by to see us, you’ll probably find us in the back checking the vats or talking to the workers about the current batch. It’s a tough business and the weather affects everything we do. When it rains, everything slows down and we have to cover the stock quickly. We’ve been in this spot for years and seen the colony grow around us. Most of the people working here live nearby and walk to work. We don't really have a website or do any fancy advertising. People know us through word of mouth or because they’ve been buying from us for a long time. It’s honest work that requires a lot of patience and effort every day. We just focus on the leather.
