Indian Tanning Industries

We are located at 98-88 in Nazir Bagh. It’s an older part of the area, and the buildings have a lot of character, though they can be a bit drafty. Indian Tanning Industries has been operating here for a long time. If you walk down the street, you can usually tell where we are by the specific smell that comes from the tanning process. It’s a strong scent, and it stays on your clothes, but we don't even notice it anymore. The workspace is filled with hides in various stages of being processed. It’s a wet and messy job a lot of the time. We wear heavy aprons and boots to keep dry. The floor is often slick, so we have to watch our step. Our tools are old and have been repaired more times than I can count. We don't see the need for new fancy equipment when the old stuff still works fine. There’s a small courtyard where we sometimes sit during breaks. Nazir Bagh is a busy place, but inside our walls, we just focus on the leather. It takes a lot of patience to do this right. You can't rush the process or the quality suffers. We’ve had the same small group of workers for years. We know each other's families and stories. It’s a bit like a second home for most of us, even with all the hard work and the grime.
