You can find Greater Arafat Tanners (P) Ltd. at C-12 on the New Jajmau Road. Jajmau is the heart of the tanning industry, and we fit right in with the rest of the shops along this stretch. Our place is quite large because we need the room for the vats and the drying areas. It’s not a quiet job. There is always the sound of water running or machines humming in the background. We have a small office near the front where we keep the ledgers, but most of the action happens out back. The floor is almost always wet, so everyone wears heavy boots. It’s hard work and your hands get stained, but that’s just the nature of leather tanning. We don’t have a website or a marketing team. We just rely on the quality of the hides we produce. Most of our customers have been buying from us for years, so they know what to expect. We aren't into the corporate way of doing things. We just open up early in the morning, get the skins moving, and close up when the work is finished for the day. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, especially when it rains and the leather won’t dry right. We just manage as best as we can. Being at C-12 has been good for us. It’s a practical location for the trucks to come and go. We just keep our heads down and work.
