We have been operating out of this spot at 15/202-c Civil Lines for a good while now. It is not a fancy place, just a regular workshop where we handle leather hides all day. The smell of the tan is something you just get used to after the first week, though visitors usually notice it right away. Most days start early when the first truck arrives, and we spend the morning sorting through what came in. Some pieces are better than others, so it takes time to look at every single one. My hands are usually stained by noon, and that is just how it goes in this trade. The building itself is older, and the lights flicker sometimes if we run too many machines at once, but we know how to fix it. We do the tanning work and the prep, making sure things are ready for whatever they are going to be turned into later. There is always a lot of dust flying around from the sanding, so we keep the windows open even when it is a bit cold outside. It is noisy because of the drums turning, but you learn to talk over it. We just stay focused on the skins and getting the texture right. It is hard work on the back and the arms, but we are used to the routine here in Civil Lines. We don't do much besides the tanning, keeping things simple and sticking to what we know.
