Leather Hut

Leather Hut is located at No. 88/362 in Humayun Bagh, Chaman Ganj. We also have a presence at 44/317 Mesteon Road here in Kanpur. Being in Kanpur means leather is everywhere around us, so we just do our part in it. The Humayun Bagh spot is where a lot of the heavy work happens. It’s a busy area and the streets are always full of people and carts. We have stacks of raw hides that come in and we have to sort through them. It is hard work and our hands are always stained from the dyes. The Mesteon Road location is more for when people want to see what we have finished. It’s a bit of a squeeze inside with all the boxes. We don't use fancy computers for our business, just a notebook and some pens. Sometimes we get a big order and everyone has to stay late to finish it. The smell of the leather in Chaman Ganj is something you never forget. We use traditional tools that have been around for a long time. The lighting isn't the best in the back of the shop, so we move closer to the door when we need to do fine stitching. It’s just a normal day-to-day life for us here. We make things, we sell them, and then we start over the next morning. It is a simple way to make a living.
