Ahad Leathers

You can find Ahad Leathers right near Nai Masjid in the Shujat Gunj area of Kanpur. We are at number 133, not far from the P.O. C.O.D. if you’re looking for a landmark. Kanpur is famous for its leather, and we’ve been part of that tradition in our own small way. The smell of tanned hides is something you get used to pretty quickly when you work here. Our workshop is usually full of scraps and large pieces of leather waiting to be cut. We make various items, from belts to bags and shoe uppers. It’s a noisy place with the machines running and people calling out to each other. We don't have a shiny showroom. Most of our work is done right there in the middle of the shop. We have a few craftsmen who have been with us for years, and they know the material better than anyone. They can tell the quality just by the feel of it. It’s a dusty, busy environment, but there is a lot of skill involved. We get a lot of locals coming by, and sometimes people from other parts of the city who heard we do good work. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just rely on the work we do. It’s a tough business with a lot of competition, but we stay steady. We keep our tools sharp and our eyes on the leather all day.
