Majhapatiyan Farmer Producer Company Limited is mostly run from Hakim Singh’s house in Majhpatiyasundarpur, near Roora. We are a small collective of farmers from this specific corner of the district. We all know each other—we’re either related or we’ve lived next door for decades. The reason we formed this company was to see if we could manage our logistics better. Shipping our crops out is always a headache, so we try to share the costs of the transport. It’s a very informal way of doing business, even though we have a company name and all that. You won't find any posters or advertisements for us. We just rely on word of mouth among the local families. Most of our business meetings happen while we are working or late in the evening after the sun goes down. It’s a tough life, and there are many times when we think about giving up because the profits are so slim and the work is so hard. We deal with pests, bad weather, and middle-men who try to squeeze us. But having this company gives us a little bit of strength in numbers. We aren't trying to change the world; we just want to make sure we can pay our bills and keep our land. It’s a very human, slightly messy operation, but it’s ours and we’re proud of it.
