Katraataipur Jadid is the village where we do our work. We're over at Kishan Lal’s place. It’s a simple house that we use for the company business. Kayamganj isn't a very big town, but we have a lot of farmers here. This company was put together so we could have a bit more say in how things are sold. Kishan Lal keeps the records, though he’s usually out in the fields like the rest of us. It’s a farmer producer setup, so it’s owned by the people who do the actual digging and planting. We don't have any fancy furniture. Just some plastic chairs and a table that wobbles a bit. We spend our time figuring out the best time to sell our crops. It’s a lot of waiting for the right price. The weather is always a topic of conversation, especially when the monsoon is late. We don't use any big words or corporate talk. We just say what we mean. If the crop is good, we’re happy. If it’s bad, we figure out how to get through it. People stop by to chat or to ask about seed prices. It’s a community thing more than a big business. We’re just trying to make sure the farmers in Katraataipur Jadid get a fair shake for the hard work they put in all year round.
