Cheruthazham Black Pepper Producer Company Limited

We work out of Cp Vi/74, a place called Punartham in Kulapuram. It is right in the Vilayancode area near Pilathara in Kannur. Our whole world revolves around black pepper. It is one of those things that people take for granted, but growing it and getting it ready is a huge amount of work. We aren't a massive factory; we are a producer company, which basically means we are a group of local folks working together. During the harvest season, everything is hectic. We are out in the vines constantly. The smell of pepper is always in the air at our office, and it definitely gets in your clothes. It’s a tough crop because it needs just the right amount of shade and rain. If the monsoon is too heavy, we worry about the roots. If it’s too dry, the vines suffer. We don't spend money on fancy marketing or polished brochures. Our focus is entirely on the pepper itself. We spend our time drying the peppercorns and making sure they are clean and ready. It is a very old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. Most of us grew up in Kannur and have seen pepper being grown since we were little kids. It’s just what we do. We don't need to make it sound like more than it is.
