If you head down Soanmbedu Road in Madurantakam, you’ll find us at number 41. We’ve been running Vijayalakshmi Cements from this location for quite some time. It’s a dusty business, selling cement, so you won’t find any shiny floors or fancy furniture here. We spend most of our time out in the yard or at the front desk handling orders. People around here are always building something, whether it’s a new wall or a whole house, so there’s always a truck coming or going. We deal with a lot of local builders and folks doing their own repairs. The road can get pretty narrow when the big lorries arrive with fresh stock, but we make it work. It’s a straightforward job. We take the orders, load up the bags, and try to keep things moving. Sometimes it rains and we have to scurry to make sure everything is covered up properly, which is always a bit of a mess. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who know the trade. We aren’t much for talking fancy; we just tell you what’s in stock and how much it costs. Living and working in Madurantakam means we know most of our customers by name. It’s a decent way to make a living, even if our clothes are always covered in grey dust by the end of the shift.
