Aswan Fishnet

Our place is located at 20/50 on Kalakshetra Road in Thiruvanmiyur. If you know the area, you know it can get pretty busy with traffic and people going to the temple or the beach. We are right in the thick of it. We work with fishnets, so there is always that specific smell of nylon and rope around the shop. It is a practical space, not something you would see in a magazine. We have bundles of nets stacked against the walls and tools lying on the benches. Sometimes it looks like a mess to an outsider, but we know exactly where everything is. The coastal air around here is nice, though it can make things a bit damp sometimes. We have been here for a long time and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. A lot of new shops have opened up, but we just keep doing what we have always done. The guys who work here have been doing this for years, so they know the knots and the mesh sizes like the back of their hands. We don't really do much advertising. Most people just walk in or call us because they heard about us from someone else in the fishing community. It is a straightforward way of doing business. We open up early in the morning when the air is still cool and try to get the bulk of the heavy work done before the midday heat hits. It is a steady rhythm that we have fallen into over the years.
