About Black Stone Art – Housewares & Supplies in Jodhpur
It is usually pretty quiet around 33 Raika Bagh until we start the grinders in the morning. Black Stone Art isn't a big fancy place with glass windows and air conditioning. It is just a shop where we spend our days working with different kinds of stone. Most of the time we are covered in grey dust by noon. We’ve been at this address for quite a few years now. People in the neighborhood know us by the stacks of raw material sitting near the entrance. Sometimes someone pops in to ask for a small carving or just to see how a certain piece is coming along. We don't have a receptionist or a sales team. If you come by, you’ll probably find one of us with a mask on, hunched over a block. It’s hard work on the hands and the back, but it is what we know. We don't do much advertising because the work usually speaks for itself when people walk past. The light in the workshop is best in the early afternoon, so that’s when we do the fine detailing. We keep a few chairs in the corner for when friends stop by to chat. It gets hot in the summer but the stone stays cool. We just focus on the next piece and try to keep things moving along steadily. The floor is always covered in chips of rock, and we sweep it up at the end of the day. It’s just how we live.
