Matel Carft

Our shop, Matel Carft, is located on Mia Basni Mahankali Street. It’s a busy little road and we are right in the thick of it most days. We deal with metal mostly, hence the name, even if the spelling on the official paper is a bit unique. The workshop is pretty basic. We have our tools laid out and there’s usually a pile of scrap metal in the corner waiting to be used for the next project. It’s not a place for wearing clean clothes. By the end of the day, we’re covered in dust and grease from the machines. There’s no air conditioning, so we just leave the front door wide open to get a bit of a breeze. You can hear the hammers and the grinders from down the block. We aren't trying to be some high-end studio. We just make things out of metal and fix what’s broken for people. It’s hard work on the back and the hands, but it’s what we’ve always done. Sometimes the neighbors come by just to chat for a minute while we’re working. We don't have a computer or any fancy system for tracking things. We just write it down in a notebook and get back to the bench. It’s a simple way to run a business. If you come by, you’ll likely find us in the middle of a job. The street can get pretty dusty when the trucks go by.
