Ratanbai Kanya Vidyalaya

Ratanbai Kanya Vidyalaya is situated at number 16 in Jamnagar. We are right in the heart of the city, so the environment is always lively. Being a school for girls, we provide a space where the local daughters can come and study together. The building is one of those older structures you see in the 361001 zip code area, with thick walls and high ceilings. It’s not a modern glass-and-steel building by any means. There’s a lot of character in the old hallways, even if the paint is peeling a little here and there. During the lunch break, the sound of hundreds of girls talking at once fills the whole street. We don't have a big fancy field, so the students mostly spend their free time in the corridors or the small courtyard. Jamnagar can get very hot, so we try to keep the rooms as airy as possible. The teachers here have a lot of experience and they don't bother with much formality. We just want to get the teaching done. You’ll see a lot of bicycles parked outside because that’s how many of the girls get here. We are a familiar landmark for people living in this part of town. There isn't any grand philosophy behind what we do; we just open the doors every morning and make sure there is a teacher in every room.
