Gujarat Dragon Fruit Farm

If you head out to Sarvania Village in the Kalavad Taluka, you will find Gujarat Dragon Fruit Farm. It is a bit of a change from the usual cotton or groundnut farms you see around here. We have rows and rows of those concrete poles that the dragon fruit cactus climbs on. It looks a bit strange if you aren't used to it, like a field of green spikes. The work here depends entirely on the season and the rain. When the fruit starts to ripen and turn that bright pink color, everyone is out in the fields early in the morning before the sun gets too hot to handle. We spend a lot of time checking the irrigation lines and making sure the soil is just right for the plants. It is quiet out here, mostly just the sound of the wind and the birds, which is nice compared to the noise of the city. We are just a local team of people who enjoy working the land and seeing things grow. Sometimes the harvest is great, and sometimes we have to deal with pests or bad weather like any other farmer in Gujarat. We don't have a big office or a reception desk; usually, if you want to talk to us, you'll find us out in the dirt or sitting under the shade of a tree during the lunch break. It is honest work, and we just keep at it in this Sarvania soil.
