Banarasi Restaurant

Our place is right there by the Bedi Gate in Jamnagar, pretty close to the Navanagar High School. It’s a good spot because we get a lot of students coming in during their breaks looking for something quick to eat. We also see people heading to the Jayshree Talkies for a movie in the evenings. It’s been our family business for some years now. We didn't really plan on it being a big thing, just a small restaurant where people can sit for a bit. The interior is just basic wooden tables and some fans that we have to keep fixing every summer. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen making sure everything is done right. It’s mostly my cousins and I working the shifts. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when a movie ends and everyone rushes in at once. We don’t really use any special machines or anything, just traditional cooking over the stove. The noise from the street is always there, but you stop noticing it after an hour. We try to keep things clean, but with so many people coming in and out of the gate area, it’s a constant job. We’re just regular people serving food to whoever walks through the door. It’s hard work and the hours are long, but we’re used to the routine of the Bedi Gate life and seeing the same faces every day.
