S.S. Engg Works

S.S. Engg Works is situated in Katra Mohalla, which is in the Basti Danismandan area. A good landmark to find us is the Government Homeopathic Dispensary, which is right across the street from our shop. Being in an older part of the town means the streets are a bit narrow and there’s always something going on outside our door. You’ll hear the sounds of the neighborhood mixed in with the clanging of metal from our workshop. We do a lot of traditional engineering work, so there’s always some welding or grinding happening. The front of the shop is usually open to let in some air, even if it brings in the dust from the road. We have a few old benches that have been around as long as the shop itself, and they’ve got the marks to prove it. It’s a very local kind of place where people often stop by just to say hello or ask for a quick fix on something they’ve brought from home. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just rely on people knowing where we are in Katra Mohalla. The smell of grease and burnt metal is pretty constant here, but we don’t mind it. It’s a honest day’s work in a neighborhood that has a lot of history. We close up when the sun goes down and start again the next morning.
