Ambika Overseas

Ambika House is where we spend most of our daylight hours. It sits right on Model House Road in Basti Sheikh, and if you know the area, you know it stays pretty busy with traffic and people moving about. We’ve been operating from this spot for quite some time now. Most mornings start with unlocking the front gate and getting the lights on before the rest of the street really wakes up. It isn’t a fancy setup by any means, just a solid building where we handle all the overseas stuff. There is usually a lot of paperwork piled up on the desks and boxes waiting to be moved. We do our work, talk to the people we need to, and try to keep things organized enough to get through the day. Sometimes the tea man comes by, which is a nice break. Living and working around Basti Sheikh has its own rhythm. You get used to the sounds of the neighborhood and the way the sun hits the building in the afternoon. We aren't trying to change the world or anything, we just focus on making sure the orders go where they are supposed to go. It’s a lot of back-and-forth emails and checking schedules, but that is just how it is here. Most of us have been around for a while, so we know the routines pretty well. It feels like home even though it is just our workplace at Ambika House.
