Preet Vaishno Dhaba

You will see us on the road near Kartarpur, right opposite the Power Grid and close to The White Spott Palace. Being a Vaishno dhaba, we only serve vegetarian food. This is a common stop for people driving through Jalandhar who want a simple meal that feels like it was made at home. We have big tandoors for making fresh roti and we always have a pot of dal simmering on the stove. The seating is basic, just long tables and benches where anyone can sit together. It is a dusty area because of the road traffic, so we are constantly wiping down the surfaces. My family has been running this for a few years now. We don't have a printed menu; we just tell people what we have made for the day. Usually, it is a few types of seasonal vegetables and lentils. The truck drivers stop here often because they know the food is fresh and the tea is strong. We keep the place open from early morning until the last traveler passes by late at night. There is no air conditioning, just the breeze from the open front and some ceiling fans. It is a humble place, and we just focus on making sure the food is hot and there is enough for everyone who stops. Sometimes we run out of special dishes by evening, but there is always dal and roti.
