Devi Sahye Sd Senior Secondary School has been sitting here in the Industrial Area of Jalandhar for a long time now. If you walk down towards the Sodal Mandir, you can’t really miss us. It’s a busy part of town with all the factories and small workshops nearby, so there is always a lot of noise and movement on the streets. Our school started out to help the families living around Industrial Town and we just kept going year after year. The building is older, but it holds a lot of memories for the people who grew up in this neighborhood. Every morning, the gates open and kids from all over the local area come in, dodging the rickshaws and delivery trucks. We don’t have fancy stuff, but we have rooms where teachers try their best to get through the lessons. In the afternoons, you’ll see the older students hanging around the tea stalls or just walking home through the dusty lanes. It is a very practical place to be. We are just part of the furniture in this part of Jalandhar. The address is quite specific, right there in the heart of the industrial belt. People know us by the name and the fact that we’ve stayed here while the city changed around us. It’s not a quiet place, but it’s our place, and we just keep doing what we do every single day without making a big fuss about it.
