Children Public School

Children Public School is situated on SH18 in Jasso Majara, right near Nawanshahr. Being on the state highway means we get a lot of traffic passing by, but the school itself is a bit set back so it stays manageable. It’s a rural setting, so many of the kids come from the surrounding villages. The school building is a simple, rectangular structure with a courtyard in the middle. We don't have air conditioning or fancy elevators. We have desks that have been used for years and walls that we repaint whenever we get the chance. The mornings are usually quite peaceful before the sun gets too high. You can hear the tractors in the nearby fields sometimes. We focus on the basics here. The teachers often walk or take the bus to get to Jasso Majara. We don't use any fancy language to describe ourselves. We are just a local public school being a place for kids to learn their lessons. The playground is mostly grass and dirt, and that’s where the kids play cricket during their breaks. It’s a very honest environment. We know the families, we know the struggles of the area, and we just try to keep the doors open and the books ready. Life on SH18 is busy, but inside our gates, we just focus on the children and their daily studies. It’s a quiet life of teaching and learning in a small community.
