We are at number 35 on Ganga Path in the 22 Godam Industrial Area, inside Pevand Bhawan. It’s a bit of a quiet spot compared to some of the other roads around here. Inside, we have benches where we sit to look at the stones and the pieces we are working on. We spend a lot of time under bright lamps, checking the clarity and the cut of different gems. It’s meticulous work and can be a bit hard on the eyes after a few hours. The office has a safe for the valuable bits and a lot of small plastic containers for sorting everything out. We don’t have a big storefront with glass windows; it’s more of a workspace where the real crafting happens. There’s always a little bit of dust from the polishing wheels that gets on the furniture. We keep a kettle in the corner for making tea, which we do quite often. The building itself, Pevand Bhawan, is an older structure that has its own character and some creaky doors. Sometimes we have to move the tables around to get the best natural light coming through the windows. We’ve been here in 22 Godam for quite a while now and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. It’s just a small team of us here, and we mostly just talk about the stones or the news while we work. It’s a calm place to spend the day.
