Raj Shri Emporium

If you stand right outside our door at Raj Shri Emporium, you can see the Hawa Mahal just across the street. It’s a beautiful view, but honestly, most days we are too busy to look at it. The road is always packed with tourists and rickshaws, especially during the winter months when the weather is nice. We’ve been here for a good while, selling all sorts of things that people like to take home. The shop is filled with shelves and sometimes it feels a bit cramped when too many people walk in at once. We don't spend money on fancy decorations inside because the items we have provide enough color. Dust from the Hawa Mahal Road comes in every time someone opens the door, so we spend a lot of time cleaning. It’s a family-run kind of place. My brother or my cousin is usually around to help move the heavy boxes. We don't do much advertising; people just see us while they are visiting the monument and wander in. Sometimes they stay for an hour, other times they just glance and leave. That’s just how it goes in this part of Jaipur. We try to be fair and keep things straightforward with everyone. It gets loud with all the horns honking outside, but you get used to it after a week. It’s a decent life here in the middle of all the history and the crowds.
