Vijay Laxmi Transport Carriers is tucked away in Transport Nagar, specifically at B/41. If you've ever been to Transport Nagar, you know it’s a world of its own. There are trucks everywhere and the smell of diesel is just part of the air we breathe. Our little corner at B/41 is where we manage all the routes. It’s a bit cramped inside the office with all the files and the old furniture, but we know where everything is. The walls are covered in calendars and maps that have seen better days. We spend a lot of time talking to drivers who are tired from long trips. We hear all sorts of stories about the highways and the weather in different states. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. Sometimes we stay late into the night waiting for a particular delivery to show up so we can sign off on it. We don’t have a big marketing department or anything like that. We just rely on the fact that we’ve been here for a long time and people know our face. The tea stall down the lane is basically our second office. We go there to clear our heads when the phones get too loud. It's a lot of repetitive work, checking weights and addresses, but it keeps the lights on. We just try to be honest with people about when their stuff will arrive.
