The Raina Sozni Industrial Co Opratives

We are over on Moti Dungri Road and we operate as a cooperative. This means a bunch of us work together on the Sozni embroidery. It is a very fine type of needlework that takes a lot of patience and good eyesight. We have a space where we sit together and work on the pieces. Moti Dungri Road is usually quite busy with traffic going toward the temple. We can hear the horns and the people outside while we are working with our needles. It is a quiet kind of work compared to the street. We share the tasks and make sure everything is moving along. Some of the members have been here for decades. We have seen the area change a lot over the years. The cooperative started because it was easier to work together than alone. We don't have a big boss or a corporate structure. We just decide what needs to be done for the day and get to it. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of thread and someone has to go out and find a match. We sit on rugs or low stools mostly. It is better for the back when you are leaning over the fabric for hours. We don't do much advertising. People know we are here on the main road. We just keep our heads down and finish the stitches. It is a slow process but we like the way the final work looks when everyone has done their part correctly.
