Our shop is down on the ground floor of Ganpati Plaza on M I Road. It’s a busy building with people constantly moving through the halls. Inside our space, there are rolls of fabric stacked from the floor to the ceiling. We have all kinds of materials, and the colors can be a bit overwhelming when you first walk in. We spend a lot of time unrolling cloth on the long wooden tables to show people the patterns. There’s always the sound of heavy scissors cutting through cotton or silk. We keep a lot of swatches around for people to feel the texture. It’s a bit cramped because we try to keep so much stock on hand. The lighting in the plaza isn't the best, so we often take pieces near the door to see the true color in the sunlight. Some days are just about counting inventory and making sure the rolls are tidy, though they never stay that way for long. We get a mix of people coming in, some looking for enough to make a dress and others wanting bulk for bigger projects. It’s a lot of standing and reaching for high shelves. We’ve been in this spot for a while now and know the rhythms of the mall. It’s a steady job of handling cloth and talking to folks about what they’re making.
