New Shekhawati Transport Co is tucked into 215- A Sansar Chandra Road Jalupura. If you know this part of town, you know it gets incredibly crowded with traffic and people moving in every direction. Our office is a small space where the phone seems to ring at the most inconvenient times. There are always drivers coming in and out, some tired from long hauls and others looking for their next route. We have stacks of logbooks and delivery slips piled up on the counters. The walls are mostly covered with old calendars and a few maps that have seen better days. Outside on Sansar Chandra Road, the noise of horns and engines never really stops. We spend a lot of time talking to people about where their goods are and when the next truck is leaving for the highway. It is mostly about managing schedules and hoping the weather stays clear for the guys on the road. Jalupura is a busy hub, so we see a lot of different faces every day. We don’t have any polished receptionists or fancy waiting rooms. There are just a few chairs for whoever is waiting for paperwork to be signed. We drink a lot of tea to stay awake during the late shifts when the big trucks are moving. It is a bit chaotic sometimes, but that is just how the transport business works in a place like this.
