New India Express Service

If you go down to VKIA Road No 9, you’ll see the sign for New India Express Service. This is an industrial area, so there aren’t many trees or nice views. It’s mostly just warehouses and trucks. We are right in the middle of it all. Our day starts very early when the first shipments arrive. It’s a lot of lifting and checking labels. The office part is just a small room with a couple of desks and a lot of clipboards. It gets pretty loud with the trucks idling outside, but you stop noticing it after a while. We don't have any polished corporate stuff going on here. It’s just us making sure the packages get to where they need to go. Sometimes the computer system is slow and we have to do things by hand, which takes longer. The tea stall down the road is where we get our morning fuel. It's a lot of physical work and the air can get pretty dusty from all the movement. We’ve been at this location for a good stretch now and we know all the drivers by name. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s important. We stay until the last truck is loaded, which sometimes means we are here after the sun goes down. It’s a plain, honest way to make a living in this city.
