Down at M I Road 85, you’ll find Jay Mahal Ice Cream Palour. We’ve been serving scoops here for a long time. It’s a small shop, and sometimes it gets a bit cramped when the weather gets hot and everyone wants something cold. We have the usual flavors you’d expect, and a few others we’ve kept on the menu because people keep asking for them. I usually spend my afternoons making sure the freezers are running right because they can be a bit temperamental in the summer heat. M I Road is always busy, so there’s always someone walking past the window. We don’t do anything too fancy with the toppings or the bowls, just good ice cream that hits the spot. Sometimes we run out of certain flavors by the evening if it's been a busy Saturday. It’s just how it goes. My son helps out after he finishes his school work, mostly helping with the cleaning or serving the kids who come in. We like being part of the street here. It’s a lot of standing on your feet all day, but seeing people enjoy a cone makes it feel worth it. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in town, just a reliable place where you can get a treat and sit for a minute before heading back out into the traffic. We keep the place open late during the summer months just to help people cool down and enjoy the night air.
