Jai Shanker Transport Corporation

Jai Shanker Transport Corporation is based out of New Mandawa House on Sansar Chandra Road. It is an old building and our office has that worn-in feel that comes from years of people coming and going. The road outside is always loud with traffic and people shouting, but inside we just focus on the logs and the manifests. We have a few desks that have seen better days and a lot of registers filled with notes about truck movements. Drivers come in after long trips, looking tired, and sit on the wooden chairs while we sort out their papers. We drink a lot of tea here, mostly to stay awake during the slow afternoons. The walls are covered with old calendars and maps that are starting to peel at the edges. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit there in the dark for a bit, waiting for it to come back so we can finish the entries. It is not a place for anything fancy. We just handle the transport side of things and try to keep track of where everything is supposed to be. The stairs up to the office are a bit narrow, so you have to watch your step. We know the other folks in the building well. We’ve been at this spot for a long time and it just feels like home now, despite the noise and the dust from the street.
