You can find us over at Meena Market, right across from the railway crossing on Sirsi Road in Kanakpura. It is a busy spot because of the trains and the trucks coming through all the time. We handle a lot of transport work, mostly moving goods from one place to another for local people. Our office is just a small room with a couple of desks and a lot of logbooks stacked up. The phone rings pretty often with drivers calling in or people asking where their stuff is. It gets quite dusty with the main road being so close to the door. We spend a lot of time outside talking to the drivers and checking the loads before they leave. Sometimes the railway gate stays closed for a long time, and you just see a long line of vehicles waiting. We have gotten used to the sound of the whistles and the tracks. It is not a fancy job, but it keeps us busy from morning until late at night. My nephew handles the paperwork while I talk to the customers. We have a few old chairs for people to sit on while they wait for their receipts. The tea guy comes by twice a day, which is the highlight for most of us. We just try to keep the trucks moving and make sure the cargo gets where it needs to go without too much trouble. It is a lot of coordination and sometimes a bit of shouting.
