Our business, Gattulal And Brothers, is sitting at 285 Tripoliya Bazar. This is one of the oldest parts of the city, and you can really feel that history when you walk through the doors. The building has thick walls and high ceilings, and we have been here for generations. The bazar outside is always a whirlwind of activity with colors and people everywhere. We don’t have a modern office; instead, we have old wooden counters and shelves that have been here longer than I have. We spend our days managing the inventory and talking to customers who have been coming to us for decades. It’s a family thing, so there are usually a few of us around, arguing about where something was put or what needs to be ordered next. The noise from the main road is constant, but you sort of stop hearing it after a while. We keep things the way they’ve always been because it works for us. There’s no need for fancy displays when people already know what we have. Sometimes we just sit out front on the ledge and watch the world go by when things are slow. It’s a steady kind of life in a very busy place. We know the other shopkeepers nearby, and we all help each other out when someone needs change or a hand moving a heavy box.
