Chogan Handicraft

Chogan Handicraft is located right by the Jaipur GPO, near Ajmeri Gate. This is one of the oldest and most historic parts of the city. If you walk through Ajmeri Gate, you feel like you are stepping into the heart of the old town. Being near the GPO is very convenient because everyone knows where the main post office is. Our place is filled with all sorts of handicraft items that we’ve collected. It’s a bit crowded in here, but that’s the way it is with these kinds of shops in the walled city. The area is always full of tourists, local shoppers, and rickshaws zipping around. It’s a very colorful and loud part of Jaipur. We spend our days arranging the stock and talking to people who wander in after seeing the gate. Ajmeri Gate is a major landmark, so we never have to give much of an explanation of where we are. The shop itself is simple, just shelves and tables piled high with work. We don't have fancy lighting or air conditioning like the big malls. It’s just a traditional shop in a traditional part of town. Chogan Handicraft has its roots here in the center of the city. We see a lot of different faces every day from all over the world. It’s a busy life, but we wouldn't want to be anywhere else but this spot by the GPO. We just open up and see what the day brings.
