Annpurna Department Store

Annpurna Department Store is over at D-261 in Jagdamba Nagar. We are just off the Ajmer Road in Jaipur. It’s called a department store, but it’s really just a large grocery shop where you can walk around a bit. We have rows of shelves with everything from pickles to plastic buckets. The lighting inside is a bit bright because we used those long tubelights. It helps to see the labels clearly on the packets. We have a lot of plastic bins filled with different grains and pulses. People can weigh out how much they want. We spend a lot of time cleaning those bins and refilling them. The area around Jagdamba Nagar has grown a lot lately, so we get a lot of new customers now. We try to keep some of the newer brands of snacks that kids like. My daughter helps with the billing on the weekends when she is free. We have a small desk where we keep the calculator and the notebooks. The stone floor stays cool, which is good for the Jaipur summers. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of big ceiling fans that spin fast and make a bit of a whirring sound. Sometimes we get a bit behind on stocking the shelves when a big order comes in from the wholesaler. It’s a lot of lifting and carrying boxes. We are just a regular family-run shop trying to provide what the neighborhood needs for their kitchens and homes. It's hard work but it keeps us busy.
