Jai Foods

We are located in the Khandelwal Compound at Plot Number 21 in Palda. Our business, Jai Foods, is right near the Prathna Tol Kanta, which is where all the big trucks get weighed. Because of the location, there is always a lot of dust in the air and the sound of heavy engines idling nearby while drivers wait their turn. Our facility is basically a large shed where we handle food products, mostly in bulk. It’s not a very pretty place, just concrete floors and high metal ceilings that get really loud when it rains during the monsoon. We spend our hours unloading pallets and checking that everything is stored correctly so it doesn't get ruined by the heat or the damp. There’s a lot of paperwork involved with the transport side of things, so someone is always sitting at the small wooden desk near the front gate with a pen and a stapler. We don't do any retail here; it’s all wholesale and distribution to the markets for the most part. The tea stall down the road is where we usually take our breaks and talk about the grain prices with the other guys from the compound. It’s a rough-and-ready environment, and you have to be careful walking around because of the forklifts and the workers moving fast. We just focus on getting the orders out to the local markets and making sure the trucks don't get stuck in the driveway.
