Shri Guru Kottureshwar Granites

Our shop is over here at 577/C on the Balkundi Road. Bagalkot can get quite warm, so working with granite all day is a bit of a workout. The yard at Hire-Upwal is usually filled with different slabs of granite. We get them in big pieces and then they get sorted out. It’s not the cleanest job in the world because of all the stone dust that settles on everything. You sort of get used to it after a week or two. Most of the folks who come by are local builders or people just trying to finish their kitchens. We don't have a big sales team or anything like that. It’s just us here, moving the slabs with the crane and making sure nothing cracks. Granite is heavy, and you have to be careful with how you stack it. We’ve seen a lot of changes on this road over the years, but the stone business stays pretty much the same. People always need something solid for their floors or counters. We just keep the doors open and wait for the next customer to pull up. Sometimes we sit outside when it’s not too dusty and just watch the trucks go by on the way to the main part of town. It is a simple life, really, just working with stone and talking to the neighbors who stop in for a chat. We just keep plugging away at it daily.
